Update October 14, 2007:
Posting from an Algodones dental
patient recommending "TLC Dental":
My husband and I go to this dental group ourselves, and
feel extremely comfortable recommending "TLC Dental" located on "A"
Ave., between 3rd and 4th street. My phone number in
Apache Junction, AZ is: 480-671-5336 for questions, they also have a Yuma # that
rings in Mexico and you don't have to pay internation call and that number is
1-928-328-1866 (probably the best number to call) (Ask for David, he is the
Office manager and speaks perfect English) and their phone number in Mexico is:
01152-658-517-3404. They even pick you up at the border and take you back when
you are done.
Here are some of their rates, and please feel free to call me with any questions
or call David. Prices are U.S. Dollars. Of course, only an actual dentist in
their office may give an actual diagnosis and estimate. But this is a good
guide.
Porcelain/Metal Crown $180.... Veneers Total Crown $300....
Plates Upper or Lower (Dentures) $200 each
Extraction $35-$150.... Bleaching (Home Kit) $125
Bleaching (Office) $150.... Partial (Acrylic with Metal Hooks) $180
Partial (Flexible) $350.... Partial (Flexible with Metal Mesh) $400
Filling (Amalgam/Metal) $25.... Filling (White) $35
Pre-Fab Post (Pin) $70.... Mini Implants (For Plates/Dentures) $310
Implants (For Crowns) $950.... Root Canal $180
Reline (Soft) $35.... Reline (Hard/Lab) $55
Cleaning (Regular) $25.... Cleaning (Deep) $55
X-Rays $5...... Orthodontics $1500 - $2500
I hope that this referral helps you. It's a crying shame what the dentist in the
states are asking for.
I would like to refer a Dental Group because we were very pleased with their
services and want other people to save money like we did. Located just south of
Yuma, Az. is a Dental Group in Los Algodonas, Mexico. We were quoted $20,000 for
the work we needed done in the states, and we went to Mexico and had it done for
$4000. The dentist has 27 years of experience and went to a Dental School
recognized by the American Dental Association. He also was a Professor at the
Dental College in charge of 400 students, was the director of the Dental Clinic
at the University, and has a Masters Degree in Health Science.
Thanks Linda

Update September 23, 2005
From: Yuma Cabana
One of our customers reported a positive experience with
Dr. Connie Ayala, telephone 011 526585177875. This customer says that Dr. Ayala
graduated from Loma Linda University, speaks English, and the office is air-conditioned.
Another customer reported the following: ". . . I
only know of two people that have had dental work there in Algodones, both having ok
experiences with Dr. Gomez and Dr. Nunez. But I was also told there is no
air-conditioning in Dr. Nunez's office. Dr. Gomez made an appointment with my mom on
a day that they were closed. My mom traveled 4 hours to get there so I was not
impressed with that . . . ".

Update April 26, 2004
From: Yuma Cabana
I had a telephone conversation with a customer from
Prescott, AZ who had stayed with us while he had dental work done in Algodones. I
asked him a little about his experience in Mexico. He said that he was initially
skeptical about having dental work done in Algodones, but based on a recommendation from
an attorney/neighbor who had also had dental work done there, went to Dr. Valenzuela
Dental Group ("B" Ave. Between 3rd & 4th St, Office #8, Garza's Plaza.
Tel: 011 52 (658) 517 72 00 ).
He said he had a very positive experience. The
office was very clean, the equipment was impressive and the staff very nice. He gave
these rough prices as an example: $150 for a crown (vs $800 in USA), $35 for an
extraction, $30 for cleaning, $30 for a filling.

>Dear Casey
>
>First of all I was very happy with your motel and the service that I got
>there which is why I will be returning. The location is central to
>everything and easy to get around.
>
>One of my friends who is coming with me was the one who found your website
>originally and told me about it... I came down there 3 times on day trips and
>interviewed 6 dentists and interviewed some of the patients in each dentist's office
>to see how long they had been coming to that particular dentist.
>
>When I came down there for the three days I had settled on Dr. Pablo
>Alberto Luna, Ave. B #10-2, Mextlan Plaza. His phone number is
>011-52-658-51-77-690. He is right at the corner of B Street and 2nd Ave.
>The building is fairly new and has several businesses there. He has an
>office right next to his sister's who is Alma Luna. The offices are clean
>and both of them have gotten additional training at Loma Linda Dental
>School. The people that I spoke to have been coming to him and when he is
>not available his sister for over six years and their friends have been
>coming to them for the same amount of time. Now I must say that Dr. Luna
>was not like some of the other dentists who gave you a free consultation
>and then $5 for an x-ray. His fee for an office visit was $20 which
>included an x-ray. I liked him very much and have started my work with
>him.
>
>The way the dentists work when you need root canals they send you to the
>specialist and he was able to get me an appointment with Dr. Henderson and
>I stayed that extra day just in case I had any problems which I did not.
>Dr. Henderson's office was clean and several patients in his office had
>been coming to him for awhile and two others were like me, their dentist
>had sent them there.
>
>One of my friends who will be with me has started work with Dr. Luna and
>likes him and another friend who will be with us will see Dr. Luna that
>first day on this trip.
>
>The prices for all the work that I needed were quoted at less than l/3 of
>what my dentist said in the United States but the most important thing to
>me, Dr. Luna and the mexican dentists had a little different take on what
>my main problem was and it was exactly what I had suspected for awhile so I
>would say that they are more knowledgable.
>
>Dr. Luna's office is in this plaza and interior courtyard. The first store
>is an expresso shop that is trying to be like Starbucks but their prices
>are much less and some of the drinks that I like at Starbucks are much less
>expensive there and better because they use additional ingrediants.
>
>Juanita's Beauty Shop is also in that plaza and I have got to tell you, you
>take a number and wait your turn. A cut is $7 and every man or woman I
>have seen come out looks good but I have not tried it.
>
>Also in the courtyard is an glasses shop which is only open Monday through
>Friday. That is where I will get my glasses when I am ready as their
>prices are good but the selection of frames is much better than some of the
>others.
>My friend got glasses at Baja Optical and got a very good deal but I did
>not like the selection of frames for me. They are the yellow building as
>you cross the border.
>
>The pharmacies are a whole adventure. You MUST shop prices. I will give
>you one example one prescription that I get the best price was 11.99 (100
>in the states) for a month's supply and I forgot where I got it and paid
>17.99, still a good price but my friend reminded me we got it for less
>before. One of his prescriptions went from anywhere from $8.99 to 20.00
>and so we bought it at the 8.99 place. My advice to anyone don't take the
>first place you go to unless that is all the time you have and make a
>search. We have now started a list of where we get which prescription at
>for the best price.
>
>If you have any other questions I will be happy to answer them for you.
>There is a website for losalgondes at www.losalgodones.com
and that
>certainly is overwhelming until you get down there and see things but was a
>good way to start. That was where I picked out the dentists that I
>interviewed along with one that looked like he had a nice office.
>
>Dr. Roberto Flores, Flamingo Plaza #101-H, 011-52-658-517-7606 is a
>dermatologist and my friend and I have had a consultation with him which he
>does not charge for but did not have the work done. I told another friend
>about him and she brought her husband down for a day trip and he cleared an
>infection up for him that the american doctors could not seen to fix.
